Karen Tina Harrison has been a New York City-based lifestyle journalist for her entire career. She has covered travel since the last millennium, with luxury travel assignments that have taken her around the globe.
KT (that’s what her friends call her) started out as a copywriter and beauty editor for magazines like Sassy, then became a freelance newspaper reporter specializing in careers, style, dining, and travel. She has contributed to numerous New York City guidebooks, to New York papers including The New York Times, and to glossies such as Travel + Leisure and Budget Travel. As a dining critic, KT has authored scores of restaurant reviews for New York Magazine, Time Out New York, and New Jersey Monthly, where she is the north Jersey critic. KT liked school. She earned a B.A. from Barnard College of Columbia University, an M.A. from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and a certificate from the Sorbonne, University of Paris.

I grew up just outside New York City and moved to a Manhattan college dorm a week after my 17th birthday. I started traveling as a junior-year-abroad student in Paris. Every weekend, I’d wander with a classmate to another European capital — and stay in a hostel. I still pack carry-on for my frequent travels, but my tastes and standards have grown up. I expect, at the very least, truth in advertising; travel time is too precious not to get what you pay for. As a reporter and critic, I notice everything, and paint a realistic picture for my readers.
We all have our own definition of luxury travel. For me, it’s an airline seat I can sleep in, clean air and authentic food at my destination, and smiling staff, a pin-drop-quiet room, and lap pool at my hotel. (A glass of Champagne at check-in is nice, too.) Too often nowadays, "luxury" is a meaningless label; I intend to define it for you by spotlighting travel experiences that embody service, refinement, and value.
